Our Founder
RICHARD HALPERN,
FOUNDER
1945-2009
With over 35 years of financial experience, Richard Halpern founded The Halpern Group in 1973 as a high-profile financial consulting firm. In 1982, Richard discovered his true passion and began to transition the company to exclusively serve the needs of trial attorneys and their plaintiffs.
And so began the creation of Recovery Management.
As a pioneer who added safety and flexibility to a plaintiff’s recovery management options, Richard spearheaded the development of Recovery Management products like the U.S. Treasury Bond Structured Settlement Trust, which is the only Treasury bond structured settlement approved by both Congress and the IRS. Richard is also the holder of two United States patents for groundbreaking RM Software and other services dedicated to helping trial attorneys and their plaintiffs.
In tandem with his efforts in the field of Recovery Management, Richard founded the Academy of Trial Advocacy, whose goal is to create, provide and implement new modalities to neutralize the overwhelming financial might of the insurance industry. Richard is also the author of several books on structured settlements and tort negotiation and has been quoted in numerous national publications including The Wall Street Journal.
At home in New Jersey, Richard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
